The American Express Community Stadium, also known as the Amex, became the south coast team’s new home in June 2011 and is noted for its modern facilities, including a full public address and voice alarm system featuring ATEÏS technology.
The Stadium Business New Venue Award is presented to “a stadium, arena or major sports venue that opened to great success in the past year.”
The 22,500 person capacity Amex, which is currently being expanded to approximately 30,000, was designed to also host other sports, music concerts, conferences and exhibitions. For this it houses a banqueting and conference facility, plus a teaching area for the University of Brighton, 1,200 square metres of office space, the club shop and Dick’s Bar, a lounge-bar named after the club’s life president, Dick Knight.
Among the modern technical facilities is a networked PA/VA system based on the ATEÏS IDA8. Installed by systems integrator VCP Services and electrical contractor NG Bailey, this runs 38 zones through ATEÏS SPA Series amplifiers, with everything controlled by LAP G2 network audio processors.
“We were up against some very strong competition, so to win the New Venue Award is a remarkable achievement,” said Martin Perry, Albion executive director. “In designing the best possible stadium for our needs we knew we needed a high quality sound system for general announcements and any emergencies, which, of course, we hope never arise. ATEÏS have provided us with that and we feel the system has played a part in the recognition the Amex has received.”
Since winning the New Venue Award the reputation of the Amex has grown further. At the Football Hospitality Awards held at the end of May it received the Directors’ Choice Award, which is voted for by directors of visiting clubs.
This was followed in June by the Amex taking the top award at the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) South Branch Engineering Excellence Awards.
