Featuring Marlon CS corrugated polycarbonate sheet supplied by leading manufacturer Brett Martin Daylight Systems, the curved canopies are assured of a good innings courtesy of Marlon CS’ exceptional strength, robust weather resistance and co-extruded UV barrier.
Brett Martin Daylight Systems in Coventry manufactured and supplied more than 2,000m2 of the high performing, long-life sheet; a favourite for stadia projects due to its excellent light transmission and architectural versatility. Working closely with the roofing contractor, sections of the extra long, profiled sheets were precisely tapered by Brett Martin to fit the curved canopy structure.
The striking results are now clear to see sandwiching the pavilion where they create a well lit, covered environment for spectators to view the action and encourage grass growth on the high quality pitch expected of the only Model Test Match ground in the country.
The 12,000 capacity stadium, formerly known as The Rose Bowl, has an international reputation for cricket and also hosts many major events and concerts. The East and West Stands are part of a development project which will ultimately see a 175-bedroom, 4-star hotel built and an extension of the venue’s golf course to 18-holes.
“Having worked on many stadia projects we understood the challenges of producing high quality, high volume polycarbonate to the exact specifications required of an architecturally innovative structure,” said Brett Martin’s Commercial Director, David Biggs.
“Marlon CS was a perfect choice for this project due to it being incredibly robust, versatile and lightweight. Our manufacturing expertise, gained with more than 50 years of working in the rooflight industry, also gave the architect and roofing contractor scope to deliver the bowl concept of the canopy design. We precisely designed and supplied the bespoke tapered sections to their requirements.”
With outstanding impact resistance up to 200 times stronger than glass, excellent fire performance, 10 year light transmission and three year weather-breakage warranty, stadiums, industrial, agricultural and horticultural structures can all benefit from the advantages of Marlon CS. It is available in an extensive range of profiles, 0.8mm to 2mm thick on selected profiles, and a range of colours and tints including clear, bronze, opal, green, blue and Heat Guard -which allows light to enter while deflecting solar radiation.
