The extensive contract is being undertaken by the Cardiff branch of national painting and decorating contractors Bagnalls and will see the use of various products from Johnstone’s Performance Coatings and Trade Professional ranges. The redecoration of many of the stadium’s internal walls and ceilings has now been completed, with the communal areas and function rooms all sporting a clean and colourful new look. The floors are also being repainted, including all of the steps within the stadium that will be refreshed with a new coat of yellow safety floor paint. To aid cleanliness and reduce the chance of microbial infection, Johnstone’s Microbarr Anti Bacterial Coatings will be applied in all twelve of the venue’s medical centres.
Key to the specification of Johnstone’s products for such a high profile and extensive project was the support services offered by the company’s technical and sales team, as Gary Inness, Johnstone’s Specification Development Manager explains.
“As the Millennium Stadium has remained operational throughout the refurbishment programme, ensuring that all work is completed safely and efficiently has been vital,” says Gary. “Johnstone’s has worked closely with the team at Bagnalls to provide the contractors with access to all the resources they need, from paint solutions and product advice to aftercare services, to help minimise disruption and keep the programme running to schedule.”
Prior to work commencing on site, Johnstone’s Technical Specification department was vital in ensuring the project got off to a successful start. The team paid numerous visits to the stadium to assess the environment, establish the existing condition of substrates and identify areas needing repair prior to painting. Once all investigations were carried out and the customer requirements confirmed, the Johnstone’s team of Specification Consultants produced a bespoke technical specification document, which along with recommended Johnstone‘s products, advised on the correct preparation and application techniques.
Angela Nock, Branch Manager for Bagnalls in Cardiff, praised the support of Johnstone’s Technical Specification Department. She said: “On such a large-scale project such as this, it is imperative that we have a support team that understands the needs of the project, possible constraints and the products best suited for the job. The Johnstone’s team provided all of these qualities and were always on hand with expert technical advice and support, helping the project run smoothly and successfully.”
To further assist specifiers working in the leisure sector, Johnstone’s ‘Paint Solutions for Leisure & Retail’ document provides valuable guidance to assist with the creation of colour schemes and product solutions for both interior and exterior projects. Benefiting from Johnstone’s renowned technical expertise, the guide includes information on utilising colour to assist visitors in navigating their way around buildings and advice on how the use of specialist paint systems can help to ensure that buildings meet with such requirements as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
